The Gyan was designed by the Zimmad co. as part of a competition to design a suit to counter the new Federation GMs. The Gyan borrowed many of it's features from the gundam, particularly evident in its slender humanoid proportions, thruster layout, and it's beam saber. Zeonic co.'s Gelgoog was the other contestant and it was the one selected to be Zeon's new high performance mobile suit.

After losing the competition, the single prototype was given to Ma Qube. Details are sketchy, but it is my belief that Ma Qube had the prototype gyan modified into it's medieval knight appearance. He also had an ingenious custom shield built which contained numerous hidden weapons. Ma Qube used this MS to battle Amuro Rey and the Gundam in Texas Colony. He was defeated and the Gyan destroyed.

A few Gyan variants were proposed and can be seen in the MSaV section of this website. The Gyan technology later went on to be used in the Galbaldy series of MS.
