Citroen transformer ad

Start with a cool concept--have a new car turn into a transformer. Then screw it up by having it dance around like a putz. observe.

C.H.A.R.C.

Small, fast suicide boats like the one that blew up the USS Cole have been troubling the US Navy and Lockheed Martin thinks it has the solution. It looks like something G.I. Joe would field. It's got the nose of an apache helicopter and moveable pontoons for more play value! You can read some more about CHARC here and here. Go Joe!

Steam Wars

Some cool concept art for a turn-of-the-century, steam-powered, giant robot universe. The robots remind me of the bronze giant Talos, from the film "Jason and the Argonauts" and I like how there is a battleship thing going on with the robots.

Huge B-52 model airplane

Check out this incredible RC model of a B-52 with a 23ft wingspan, weighing 300lbs, and powered by 8 jet engines. Sadly, it met with a cruel end, but amazingly, even the crash site looks authentic!

RoboNexus wrap-up

This blog entry has some links to write ups about the recent RoboNexus convention. Apparently it was a huge success, and the organizers plan on doubling the convention space next year.

Next Gen Space Suit

An interesting page on what astronauts might be wearing on Mars if we ever go there. Consideration is given to a "spray-on" suit, where layers of material are...uh, sprayed on the body. Wild--but why does the concept art look like Power Rangers?

Overman King Gainer

From Kenichi Yoshida's homepage are these awesome image drawings from Tomino's Overman King Gainer anime. Yoshida was a character and mecha designer in addition to his work as animation director on King Gainer. Thanks to Neo-Era for giving me his name.

Money in Space

I suppose its common knowlege now, but for those not paying attention, SpaceShipOne won the X-Prize. Those teams that were in the running shouldn't throw their half-completed rockets away just yet. Ansari have announced the X-Prize Cup, a yearly competition for rockets teams to see which can go the highest, carry the most people, etc. There is even a bigger prize on the horizon with the $50 million, America's Space Prize. The award will go to the first team to build an orbital spacecraft that can send seven people to a space station. The contest is being put on by Bigelow Aerospace which is anxious to start making money on space tourism.
